And a Happy Easter to You!
New Zion United Methodist Church Youth By Ray Reavis on 4/7/2009 2:23 PM

We're suspending the Saturday evening "Grub 'n Gab" until April 25th due to some other activities going on around Easter.  Since schools are out the week following Easter in our area, I imagine many of you will be spending time on vacation with your families.  Take this time of rest and fun to think and pray on the things we discussed during the last few weeks.

Remember that God has written his law upon your hearts.  This means that you have a natural longing to draw near to God.  It's easy when your away from home in strange surroundings to be tempted to do things you wouldn't do in your hometown.  Remember to whom you belong and you will know the joy of honoring God and staying close to God.

Peace,

Youth Update
New Zion United Methodist Church Youth By Ray Reavis on 3/8/2009 1:22 PM

We had a good youth meeting last night.  We talked about Ezekiel chapter 34 and what God expects of leaders.  So often we think of the obvious things:  Leaders should be intellegent, trustworthy, capable.  But too often we forget that God expects those who shepherd to care more for the flock than they care for their own personal gain.  This holds true for shepherds, as well as politicians, preachers, managers, teachers, and coaches.

Jesus was the kind of selfless leader that we can learn a great deal from.  Boy, talk about a sacrifice!  The sermon today really fit that theme, as we read Mark 8:31-38.  in verse 34, Jesus said "If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up hi cross and follow me."  Not at all like the message we get from the re ...

Youth Announcements

It's Here!

BL4Y - Bible Lessons for YouthI'm excited to announce that we have new study guides for our youth.  I know, you're thinking that I am insane being excited over a stack of books, but I think when you see these books you'll be excited, too!  I may be an old man, at least to you whippersnappers, but I remember sitting through boring classes reading boring materials that made you think you were back in your school classroom.

Trust me, I found plenty of bible studies like that, but the BL4Y (Bible Lessons For Youth) are really engaging lessons that will lead to real conversations.  I bought enough books for everyone, and if you bring more people in, we'll buy more.

My next task is to find a good, comfortable hangout.  Yep, you guessed it, we're not going to hold our youth meetings at the church.  This is a trial run, but to start with I'm looking for a restaurant that we will meet at where we can gather around, grab some grub, and gab.  If you have any suggestions, please email me at ray@rayreavis.com or call me at the church office (803) 820-0153.

Right now, we're thinking of meeting around 5 pm on Saturdays.  This way, the older youth who want to go out can still do so after eating and talking with us.  I don't want anyone to be left out, so transportation or money will not be a barrier.  If you need a ride, let me know.  If your parents are in a tight spot with money, let me know that, and you won't need to bring money for your food.

I'm excited about being your pastor.  Middle School, Junior High, and Senior High students aren't the future of the church ... you ARE the church NOW!

Yours,

Pastor Ray
